Personal Health Services
The Public Health Division of District Health Department No. 4 offers a variety of personal health services for clients who reside in Alpena, Cheboygan, Montmorency and Presque Isle counties regardless of income, health or social status.

Vision and Hearing Screening
Vision and hearing screenings are provided by staff who have been trained by the Michigan Department of Community Health. Screening is available for all children under age 18, to promote early detection and appropriate treatment.
Children’s Special Healthcare Services (CSHCS)
CSHCS is a program for children and some adults living with chronic health problems. There are over 2,000 qualifying diagnoses such as:
- Cancer
- Hearing loss
- Cerebral Palsy
- Insulin Dependent Diabetes
- Epilepsy
- Muscular Dystrophy
Immunizations
DHD No. 4 works with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to reduce and prevent vaccine-preventable diseases by providing free or affordable immunizations to all people, from birth through adulthood.
Women Infants & Children (WIC)
The Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) program provides pregnant, breastfeeding and postpartum women, infants and children up to age 5 with nutrition education, supplemental foods, breastfeeding support and referrals to other health care partners.
Maternal & Infant Health Program (MIHP)
MIHP is a support program for pregnant women and families with infants up to one year of age. The program offers home or office visits by a Registered Nurse, Registered Dietitian and a Medical Social Worker. MIHP assists mothers with Medicaid during pregnancy and after baby’s birth to help families get a healthy, happy start.
MIHP Services include:
- Lactation Specialist
- Supportive Counseling
- Childbirth, Health, Parenting Education
- Information on baby care, safety, and child development
- Transportation assistance for pregnancy and baby appointments
Sexually Transmitted Infection (STI)
DHD No. 4 works to provide education and to reduce the incidence of Sexually Transmitted Infection among residents in our area. Care provided is confidential and anonymous. HIV testing is also encouraged.
Women’s Health Care (BCCCP)/ Wise Women
District Health Department No. 4 offers a breast and cervical cancer screening program for women ages 40 to 64.
Family Planning Clinics
The family planning program promotes the wellbeing of families by giving couples the opportunity to time pregnancies when they are best able to care for a child. Medicaid or income based sliding-scale fees apply.
Communicable Disease
District Health Department No. 4 works to reduce the incidence of communicable diseases and infection through data collection, education, treatment, referral for care, reporting of illness and enforcement of laws.
