Oral Screening and Fluoride Varnish
Trained staff screen infants 6 months up to age 3 for early decay and provide fluoride varnish to prevent break down of teeth. Education is provided to families/caregivers as to how they can keep the child’s teeth healthy and the importance of a dental home by age 1. This process occurs during a WIC visit or Nutrition Education visit to reduce the amount of visits families make into the office.
Who’s at Risk?
- Communities with lower fluoride content
- Family members with dental disease/decay
- Current discoloration/decay of teeth
